Social AR refers to the Augmented Reality (AR) experiences powered by social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Social AR is the most common way to experience AR today and these platforms provide capabilities to alter your surroundings in different ways. XR (eXtended Reality) and Spatial Computing are umbrella terms for the technologies that make up Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR). These technologies let us interact with digital objects as if they were a part of our physical surroundings. Producing XR content involves many of the same workflows used in traditional 3D animation and/or video-game production. However as an emerging technology, working with XR also presents some unique challenges, many of them still unsolved. Therefore there are many opportunities for innovation in XR. This blog aims to give insight into some of the processes that go into producing XR content, while also highlighting how the process differs from traditional production.
